FAQ's

Frequently asked questions

No prior trade experience is required for most entry-level positions. We look for aptitude, attitude, and a genuine interest in agricultural equipment. Co-op students, OYAP graduates, and those with transferable skills (automotive, marine, heavy equipment) are all encouraged to apply.

Apprentice wages start at approximately 60–65% of the Journeyperson rate and increase with each level you complete. You are also paid during block release at Fanshawe College, and remain eligible for EI benefits during that period. Wages are confirmed in your offer of employment.

Block release is a 4–8 week period once per year where you attend Fanshawe College full-time for in-school training. The Ontario government subsidizes the majority of tuition — your out-of-pocket cost is typically around $400 per level. HJV helps you navigate EI benefits and financial support available during this period.

Selected HJV apprentices travel to vendor partner facilities in Europe (GRIMME in England and HORSCH in Germany in 2026) for six weeks of immersive technical training. Flights, visa, accommodation, meals, and transport are all covered. Your wages continue throughout. Spots are competitive — selection is based on technical performance, attitude, and ambassador potential.

Certified HJV Journeypersons can progress to Senior Technician, Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or pursue specialty roles in precision agriculture and warranty. We also offer mentor and leadership tracks. HJV supports dual ticketing and additional qualifications for those who want to keep growing.

Yes! HJV participates in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and hosts co-op students from Grades 11 and 12. A successful co-op placement can lead directly to an apprentice position. Contact us or speak with your school’s co-op coordinator to find out if HJV is available in your area.
